How to Wear Summer Trends Like a Man

June 6, 2011

Everything you need to know about keeping current all season long…

Sun-Faded Is the New Khaki

Meaning: the neutral shades upon which you can build an outfit. Greens, reds, yellows, or blues that look like they’ve spent way too much time on vacation–they’re basic but not boring (see: these chinos), and they’ll balance out whatever bolder colors you’re wearing.

The Pocket Square Unbound

The days of precisely folded pocket squares are pretty much over, and there’s a new approach: Stuff the damn thing in, give it peaks and curves and unexpected folds, and live a little.

The Streamlined DB Blazer

The new breed of double-breasted blazers is short of proportion (see the waist-grazing cut, opposite page), light of construction (see this cotton-and-linen blend), and long on style (see both).

So. Much. Color.

But not too much. Never too much. When in doubt, one brightly colored piece of apparel per red-blooded male, and keep the rest of what you’re wearing on the quieter side.

A Fine Raincoat

Take a break from the khaki trench for the season in favor of brightly colored, lightweight, sharply tailored raincoats. It’s in style now — and likely to remain so forever.
