Basel Watch Show: Eberhard’s Obscure Charms

March 25, 2011

As yet a little-known watch brand (there are always plenty of historic brands we don’t get to see much in the U.S.A.) but one which we expect to make some bold strides in the next year is Eberhard, a 125-year-old maker whose output stretches from the resolutely modern, like its black-faced steel Chrono 4 (with a striking design that features four subdials in a row), to the pleasingly retro, like the Tazio Nuvolari Extra Fort Chrono (above), inspired by the legendary Ferrari race driver, here in gold with unusual green-painted enamel numerals and a case back that pops open at the discreet flick of a switch. You saw it here first.
