Rodarte x Opening Ceremony’s Debut Menswear Collection

February 28, 2011

The Rodarte sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy have collaborated with American concept label Opening Ceremony for a Spring/Summer 2011 capsule collection, which recently hit stores in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo and stirred up quite a buzz among the fashion-loving republic.

And what perfect timing too, after Rodarte’s recent role in the costumes for the movie Black Swan, because if Natalie Portman’s Best Actress award at this morning’s 83rd Academy Awards and resplendent beauty in the movie is anything to go by, we’re confident of the Mulleavy sisters’ touch.

It’s their debut menswear collection, and these two make an almost irreverent pairing (with Rodarte’s high-end glitz and Opening Ceremony’s hip and avant-garde demeanour) but what we’ve seen so far is nothing short of an appealing easy-to-wear style channelling instant dapper with a difference.

Leather bomber jackets, florals, pops of red, smartly-cut knits and preppy varsity jackets make for effortlessly tasteful smart casual wear and a range of chocolate-coloured and black pieces for those who prefer treading on the safe end.

Options are now aplenty on our little island. No excuses now. The Rodarte x Opening Ceremony collection is available starting tomorrow at Club21b, #01-07, Forum the Shopping Mall.
