The Three Types of Reactions to the Engagement that Shook (Destroyed?) Last Night’s Mad Men | VF Daily | Vanity Fair

October 18, 2010

Don and Megan! Has there been a more contentious and polarizing television couple since Eliot Spitzer and Kathleen Parker? Last night’s season finale of Mad Men saw the commencement of the blessed (likely cursed) union of Don Draper and his secretary and ersatz au pair, Megan, whose last name we, a la Roger Sterling—and perhaps Don?—learned only yesterday. Word of the engagement was unwelcome, though unsurprising, news to Betty, and an equally unwelcome but completely confounding development in the eyes of Dr. Faye Miller, Don’s girlfriend at the time of his proposal to another woman. However, the most deeply felt wounds upon word of the betrothal were those Don inflicted on the hearts and Twitter feeds of the show’s fans. Reactions to the engagement fell primarily into one of three categories.
