Dolce & Gabbana for Chelsea

July 28, 2010

Carlo Ancelotti isn’t the only one bringing Italian swagger to Chelsea. Last season’s free-scoring Premier League champions have cemented their position at the top of the style table by signing Dolce & Gabbana to make their off-field kit. On a three-year contract, the big-name fashion players have designed an immaculately cut suit with club crest,  plus a “free time” outfit of jeans, “Martini” shirt and wool overcoat. The effect is startling and not dissimilar, in fact, to the wardrobe worn by Ancelotti’s former charges AC Milan – also dressed by Dolce & Gabbana – who apparently impressed the tracksuited Chelsea squad with when they arrived for a pre-season friendly in July last year.

The Directors Lounge meanwhile has been rechristened the Dolce & Gabbana Lounge and has been completely refitted, as has the main reception and the corridor of the opulent Millennium Suites. Judging by the evidence of Essien, Mikel, Hilario, Borini and Sturridge at the launch party GQ attended last night, the team-up is a great fit for both parties. Yet another fashion destination on the King’s Road.
