Pattern Mixer of the Day: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

July 21, 2010

Everyone is talking about the movie Inception: Its stars and their costumes, the mind-bendery, the action. Costume designer Jeffrey Kurland certainly deserves a lot of credit for what he put together onscreen, and the Twitterverse has been steadily thrumming with questions about who came up with those suits — especially those of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character, Arthur.

But we’d like to take a moment to celebrate Joe’s off-screen wardrobe. Because we’ve dressed him up in the pages of Esquire before, but the man has been absolutely doing his thing during Inception’s premiere tour. As you can see here from the July 10 screening in London, Joe knows how to mix his patterns right. He’s kept the palette simple, and the stripes, checks, and dots are all of a similar scale. They don’t clash, they don’t overwhelm — they create visual interest. Look, we don’t know exactly what kind of help he’s getting in his wardrobe choices, but we do know that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of the best dressed young men in Hollywood.
