Kid Cudi: Style Icon

July 20, 2010

Before you go all A-Team with a gaggle of gold chains, the real lesson to learn from Cudi is that it’s A-OK to mix and match style sensibilities. You can take preppy and make it edgy. Underground rockers can go mainstream. The point is, none of us should ever feel trapped by some constrictive label. Switch it up. If you’re the McCain-voting tucked-in shirt type, a brightly colored watch or wallet is unexpected and yet still not out of place. But if you really want to take a cue from Cudi, it’s all about the eyeglasses. Big plastic ones like Cutler & Gross’ sunglasses do the trick . You know, the kind every suburban dad with 2.5 kids sported in 1976. And while Cudi tends toward true readers in black or tortoise, you can easily use this style of frame to shade yourself from the sun. Cudi, of course, has done that too.
